Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a highly contagious viral infection that affects the respiratory system, including the nose, throat, and lungs. It is caused by influenza viruses, which are classified into types A, B, and C. Symptoms often include fever, chills, muscle aches, fatigue, sore throat, and nasal congestion. While most people recover within a few days, the flu can lead to severe complications, especially in young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems. Annual vaccination is the most effective way to prevent the flu and its complications.
